England along with Welsh Drawn in the Same Group for RWC 2027 Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The pool stage draw was overseen by rugby legends including two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

The English side together with their Welsh counterparts have been drawn in an identical group for the 2027 RWC, promising a major early encounter in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Group F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and Zimbabwe.

This draw echoes their famous meeting in the group phase of the 2015 World Cup, where a Welsh win at Twickenham contributed to the English team's surprise early exit.

Other Notable Group Draws

Ireland and Scotland also share a pool together, just as the scenario from the 2023 edition. On that occasion, Ireland secured a convincing victory, with Scotland unable to progress to the knockout stages.

Uruguay and Os Lobos, both made a strong impression as underdogs in the last World Cup, complete that Pool D.

Significantly, the winners of these two groups cannot meet defending champions and world number one the Springboks before the final, presuming the Springboks top their own group.

Knockout Implications

If the groups conclude in line with the current global standings, other leading contenders like the All Blacks and Les Bleus would remain separated from the likes of England and the Irish all the way to the final.

Under those circumstances, Argentina would be the other top-ranked nation on that side of the knockout draw as those northern hemisphere teams.

Hosts Draw Major Opener

Tournament hosts the Wallabies find themselves together with their great rivals and three-time winners New Zealand in Pool A.

Australia will open the tournament in the city of Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a marquee match aimed at launch the event.

In other groups, holders the Springboks have been paired with Italy, Georgia and the Oaks. The French team are grouped with Japan, future hosts the USA and Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will face Fiji, Los Leones and Canada as the tournament grows to twenty-four nations from the 20 who took part in France.

This edition will feature a last-16 stage for the first time in Rugby World Cup existence.

While the victor of England and Wales's group may avoid some of the rugby's heavyweights early on, they will meet the runner-up from Pool B – most likely the Italians – in the first knockout round.

A total of four of the remaining six pool winners will play a team that finished third from the initial group phase.
